  • Sera spent her early years in Gridania learning Herbalism, and eventually white magic-- boasting a strong grasp on her aetherical studies and a good relationship with elementals. Later in life, a Sharlayan noble sponsored her through the Studium, allowing her to expand her knowledge, practice somanoutics, and become an accomplished Sage.

  • Sera has a strong desire to protect those she comes to care for, and has been known to 'adopt' new adventurers-- ensuring they are safely geared, well cared for, and always have a belly full of good food. Whether this is due to her damaged relationship with her younger brother, or simply her own maternal drive, she has no clue.

  • She strongly believes a gentle hand and a few warm words are more effective than violence. That being said, she does not shy away from it- if she deems it necessary- and is a surprisingly fierce fighter. Few made the mistake of assuming otherwise, and none dared to repeat it.

Hooks

"If you need me, I will be at your side in a heartbeat."

  • Sera is a healer-for-hire well established around Ishgard and Gridania. If she also notices a party that's short a healer or she believes someone needs help, she will offer her services.

  • She wrote several thesis papers on the connection between the aether of the elementals and the voidsent's incessant hunt for them, communication between man and elemental, and how to safely harness a pact or connection with them.

  • Sera's nouliths curiously seem to posses a mind of their own, and the Viera can sometimes be caught whispering to them when she thinks no one is watching.

Her Story

"You wish to hear my tale? Oh dear- it is a very long story. How about I make us something warm to eat while you listen?"

Sera was born in a mountainous Veena village near the Coerthas border. Shortly after reaching her twenties, Sera's younger brother was born. During these years however, illness began sweeping through the too-close, isolated clan-- a powerful recipe for disaster. The sickness claimed her mother quickly, leaving a terrified Sera alone with the newborn. She knew that the clan's stubborn traditions would only fuel the flames of the illness, and so she was left with little choice but to escape from the clan before it took both their lives.Sera fled to Gridania with her baby brother in her arms, quietly settling in Fallgourd Float. The young Viera was taken aback by the new world open to her and the many varied people she began encountering-- more so however, by the Adventurer's Guild in the heart of Gridania and the people who filled it's halls. She began to dream of becoming an adventurer herself, learning to fight and protect, heal the people around her, explore this vast new world she had found waiting for her. And yet, Sera's priorities and responsibility lay elsewhere than dreams of grandeur-- they lay in raising her newborn brother and ensuring he was given the best life she could provide. So, Sera set aside her dreams, and focuses instead on a talent easily used in Gridania, using a combination of herbalism and alchemy to establish herself as an Apothecary for North Shroud. Her dream wasn't fully lost, thankfully. A visiting member of the Conjurer's guild recognized a budding talent to draw on the aether of the surrounding world within the young Viera, as well as curious elementals following her- drawn to her own aether. A recommendation was given to seek out the guildmaster, and Sera, overjoyed, followed through. The guildmaster extended an invitation for her to study under the guild's teachings, and her new-found thirst for knowledge satiated. She spend the next two decades tending to her brother first, and throwing herself into her studies after. Unbeknownst to her however-- trouble had been brewing in her believed paradise.Sera felt no love lost for the rigid traditions of her clan, too happy with the world unfolding before her, but as her brother grew into a young adult, miscommunication and omission began to eat away at their relationship. Not fully understanding why Sera took him away from the village, he began to resent his older sister for taking away his choice, taking away the life he would have had as a part of the village he could now no longer return to. It culminated into an explosive argument between the two siblings the night of his twentieth birthday- the day he would have become a guard for the clan- and ended with harsh words from both that could not easily be taken back. The next day, Sera woke to find her brother leaving out the front door, one last bitter look from him as his goodbye.Heartbroken, Sera drowned herself into practicing conjuring, rising in the guild ranks quickly. When her ability to commune with elementals, and the Guardian Tree, was discovered, two padjal seed-seers took her under their wing to further her knowledge. Sera became a full-fledged White Mage, and her time spent healing the forest and it's people slowly began to heal her own hurt as well. Unable to stand the empty silence in her home however, and with nothing left to learn from her teachers in Gridania, Sera finally allowed herself to follow her younger self's dream-- and she set out as an adventurer. She quickly joined up with a small free company, the members of which became her closest friends and confidants, family in everything but blood. She travelled and fought side by side with them for several decades, growing not only as an adventurer, but as a person in her time spend with them. However as the years piled on, as did her friend's scars and aches, and the people she had grown to love had begun to slow before her eyes. Upon nearing her eightieth years, the members of her company finally bid her goodbye, each leaving on their own to settle down and enjoy their well-earned rest.Sera, fearing the silence and pain of loneliness once again and ever-searching to continue her studies, she sought out a Sharlayan noble her and her company had once befriended. He happily agreed to sponser her through to the Studium of Old Sharlayan. She spent almost another full decade there, focusing her attention on the art of somantics in particular-- her experience as a White Mage and her penchant for aether a great aid in her schooling. She had graduated smoothly, even publishing her own thesis papers, and eventually join the Students of Baldesion, if briefly, to continue her studies of the arcane and help in expeditions across Eorzea. When her team eventually entered Ishgard in their pursuit of knowledge, Sera immediately fell in love with the city. Shortly after, with the help of her friends in Sharlayan, she applied for citizenship in Ishgard, and purchased her own home within Empyrean. Decades later, Sera- now an established presence as a learned healer with a strong grasp on arcane mysteries, and fondly dubbed as the Augur of Ishgard, she splits her time between her new home, the friends she has made across Eorzea, and joining small parties as a healer-for-hire to continue her beloved adventures and stave off the ever-present loneliness.
